2. Play and Stay at Gilligan’s Hotel and Resort
We couldn’t make ourselves number one top 5 things to do when in Cairns, but we truly are the number one party and leisure destination! Gilligan’s is located in the heart of the Cairns City just a short walk from the Reef Fleet Terminal, local boutiques, Cairns Central Shopping Centre and the gorgeous Cairns Esplanade.
What makes us a must do? We have 7 nights of entertainment, a large (and we mean LARGE) lagoon pool, poolside deck and bar, relaxing pool lounges, cabanas, resident DJs, world renowned acts, large beer hall, gaming room and two night clubs! And if that’s not enough to get you excited, once you’re done partying or relaxing by the pool, stay right upstairs in our newly renovated accommodation with options ranging from private hotel rooms or shared style dorms for large groups – perfect for those cricket, netty and footy trips!
Gilligan’s Hotel and Resort is the perfect haven for couples, friends, groups, footy trips, hens and bucks parties, work functions and solo travellers!
There’s a reason we’ve been around for 18 years, and why we’ll still be here for many more years to come!
3. Experience Atherton Tablelands and Waterfalls
Experience true wonders by exploring the beautiful rainforests and cascading waterfalls that surround Cairns by taking a trip to the Atherton Tablelands. Explore your way through ancient rainforests, swim in crystal clear lakes, take in the sights of waterfalls and slide down natural rockslides!
Take a trip to visit the oldest rainforest in the world, the Daintree, and explore Cape Tribulation, the only place on Earth where two World Heritage areas meet. Make sure you get the most out of these experiences by taking a one day or two day guided tour!
4. Bundy Jump in the Rainforests
If you’re a thrill seeker then you absolutely MUST visit Australia’s ONLY Bungy Jumping park located just 20 minutes north of Cairns City.
Skypark Cairns is a rainforest world of adventure that needs to be seen to be believed! Try the AJ Hackett Bungy Jump teetering 50 metres above a deep natural lagoon. With 16 jump styles there’s a jump for everyone whether you’re a first time jumper or a seasoned thrill seeker.
They also offer a Giant Swing experience which is the only multi-person swing in Australia reaching speeds of up to 120km/h in just 3.5 seconds – That’s pretty impressive! But if you’re looking for something a bit lower on the thrill scale, then try their Walk the Plank experience which takes you 140m above sea level. Trust us, it’s an amazing view!
5. Explore Rusty’s Markets
